Three years prior to that I taught children with Severe learning disabilities in grades 4-6. Before that I taught children with severe emotional/behavioral disorders for eight years in grades K-3. Presently, I work as a teacher's assistant in special education. I earned a BA in English Literature from one of the finest private colleges in the Southeast. Maryville College encourages students to be life-long learners who seek cumulative growth through experiences. I am a published author and have organized and researched an original thesis paper. As a teacher's assistant, I work with learning disabled students in areas such as reading literacy and logical distinctions in meaning of symbols and signs in language. I love teaching both school-age students and adults. I believe the three most important qualities a teacher can bring to a student are expert skills in the areas being taught, patience, and optimism. I truly believe all students can learn, and I provide a safe atmosphere that encourages risk-taking (the willingess to make mistakes for the benefit of learning), exploration and expansion of background knowledge, and the progressive acquisition of new material. I have always felt compelled to help others achieve their dreams. I graduated with a bachelor's in psychology and began working at a residential alcohol and drug treatment facility for adolescents. There I assisted the education personnel in tutoring our clients. I helped our kids with math, science, and English, at all levels of education.
