I do not have a specific teaching style. Everyone is different, so one particular type of teaching style may not be as effective as another. In order to be effective, I think it is important to recognize the students strengths and weaknesses before embarking on a certain learning path. As a tutor, I understand my responsibility primarily as that of helping children reach their potential. I try to help my students understand concepts they are struggling with in primarily three ways. First, I find what their strengths are and see if I can extend understanding of these concepts to the one's they are struggling with. Some students remember best what they see, some what they hear, but nearly all will best recall material that they see hear say and do something with. My teaching style is one that tries to incorporate seeing, hearing, saying, and doing and getting students to use higher order thinking skills as much as I can. During my junior and senior year in college, I TA’ed a finance class called options pricing for two semesters. Options pricing was a difficult subject. I worked very hard to receive an A- for the course, which turned out to be my favor. I had insight to the intellectual hurdles other students had to overcome to master the material. So, teaching them came very naturally. In addition, I abandoned the lecture format for a very interactive teaching format.
