A Little Bit About Me...

My finding principle on learning rest on the works of John Dewey, "want for your students, what you would want for your own child". With that said, I am a person of great patience and consdiration. I recognize that each student learns at a different rate and allow students to explore how best they learn, and given them an opportunity to do so. "Wait time" is the key to success and I give my students that time in and out of classroom. Therefore,I use a variety of learning styles based on my students. However, I prefer the contructivist approach to learning, allowing students to critcally think and apply what they are learning while giving them an opportunity to discuss, revist,and share.

From both my tutoring and teaching experience, I have concluded that each individual learns differently; therefore, I believe it is essential for teachers to discover each student’s learning style and teach them accordingly. I also strongly believe that learning should be a rewarding, pleasant, and even fun experience. Furthermore, I know that each and every student is able to learn; however, often times it is necessary to instill a desire to learn in them. This can be done by illustrating a passion for learning. I recently graduated from Lewis University with an Elementary Education major and endorsements in language arts, math, and social studies. All four years of college, I was on the Deans list. I realy understand both my general education courses along with my teaching methods courses. I have had numerous teaching experiences in the classroom along with my 16 week student teaching experience in 2nd grade. My experience has allowed me to become an effective teacher in all the content areas.
