As a teacher's-assistant for children ages 4-6 I have been able to gain experience working with them one on one and in whole groups for almost two years. This has taught me the value of identifying with the child's unique learning needs in order to encourage and drive their academic success. I believe children need patience from their tutors, steady encouragement, and to be in a positive environment that allows them to feel comfortable, focused, and ready to learn without distraction. As a tutor, I work through problems/passages with a student to determine weak points to address and to find ways for the student to connect with the subject matter. Once I determine a student’s interests and academic strengths, I present new concepts in ways that make more sense to the student and hopefully interest him or her more.
