My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : I have taught and continue to teach students with many different academic disabilities.

Interactive modeling of examples, repetition, and simplifying subject matter are key components of my teaching style. Many students have difficulty relating to academic material due the lack being given time to practice example assignments. I also teach universal strategies of how to study material to fully understand assignments.
I have worked as a Special Education Instructional Assistant for the past 8 years. I am currently attending school to become a special education teacher. I have experience teaching many different students from various grade levels and have tracked their academic progression. Students need to realize that it is ok to make mistakes, and I need to ensure that they feel safe to do so without fear of ridicule. I believe that every student can become successful in school, and has the ability to learn. Furthermore, each student has their own learning style and method of learning. It is imperative to determine each student's strength and weakness, and eliminate all weakness. Working with students who are academically challenged takes patience, kindness, and encouragement. Actually, it is the one time I love the most - teaching the student who is left behind and does not understand math concepts or just like reading. You cannot depend on the public school systems. Securing a tutor for your child is an investment in his future.
