Professional Instruction on the Trumpet

Dr. Evan Duke (D.M.A., M. Mus., and B. Mus.) has performed on trumpet, cornet, and French Horn. His past teachers include Jim Ruffaner, Bob Birch, Dan Kirsop, and Mark Clodfelter. From 2004-2006, Evan was involved in three operatic productions: Andrea Chenier, Elixir of Love, and Mefistofele. Evan continues to perform actively in both the Operatic and Music Theater worlds, including recent performances of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story and Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury. In the summers of 2004, 2005, and 2008 Evan traveled on The Musical Mission Team, a combination choir and brass ensemble that toured Europe and gave nearly 100 concerts per summer. Countries that he has performed in include El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, German, Switzerland, Italy, Slovakia, Poland, Russia, and Lithuania. I believe in good classroom management and organized lesson plans. I set appropriate boundaries and expect the students to follow the rules that are set before them. That being said I try to make the learning as fun as possible but organized. I also try to bring in anything that they are interested in to make them enjoy the subject they are learning. If I can find an example in life they can relate to that will help them learn something I will find it and bring it in. I love working with children and really love math.
Although I have been self employed for the last 6 years, I went back to school last year to add Science and Math for middle school to my certification. I passed the Praxis for both of those subjects spring of 2010. I was not able to get a full time teaching position this year. I went back to working for myself but would love to tutor.
