Individualized learning/teaching for optimal comprehension

I started tutoring in my teens helping young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders develop English and Math skills as well as speech therapy and public speaking. I adjust to the student/learner as I am told or discover their learning preferences. However, in my experience and research, I have noticed that active learning and discovery-based learning are arguably most effective mechanisms for knowledge retention.
