A Little Bit About Me...

I prefer one on one settings for teaching, but I have no problem standing in front of people. I use my work experience to apply what the student has learned in the classroom and instruct them how the subject is applied in today's work force. I am able to give instructions and address feedback when applicable. Although I have not taught in a formal classroom, I have held numerous professional meetings in the past for previous employers. I have volunteered for both summer camps (at local science museum) and at vacation bible school programs. I worked at a daycare for 2 years working with a 2 year old class, then worked as a preschool teacher for another year and a half. I have also worked as a Latin tutor, both for a semester as a teaching assistant to a high school class, and periodically with individual students while in college. Currently I am working on helping develop a summer science camp course at a local museum.
I feel like it is important to connect to students on a personal level yet still retain a professional attitude. During my time at the University of Missouri-Columbia, I earned two degrees: a BA in Philosophy and a BA in Theater. I also took many writing classes, focusing on different types of creative writing, from fiction to poetry to playwrighting. When I graduated in 2002, I spent several years in Barcelona, Spain working with college students. During that time, I tutored students in both English and Spanish, and several times taught introductory Spanish courses to students involved in summer exchange programs.
