My teaching experience began with the Upward Bound Program where I taught Language Arts and provided in-home tutoring in a diversity of subjects. I then worked for the Penobscot Job Corps Program, a program designed to provide vocational training to “culturally and economically disadvantaged youth." During my 23 years there I held a variety of direct service and administrative positions including teaching the following classes: World of Work, Intergroup Relations, Exit Readiness, Leadership I and II, and workshops of job preparedness.

A Little Bit About Me...

As I worked toward my master's degree in English, I discovered not only a love for English and composition, but a love for teaching. I have taught for three semesters; two as a college composition instructor, and one as a women's studies co-instructor. I also supervised a tutoring center geared specifically toward first year college students, and tutored students in writing.
I believe that each student learns in their own unique fashion. When I work one on one with a student, I first talk with them (and look at previous writing samples) to try and determine how best to tutor them. I believe that you must approach education by meeting the student where he or she is rather having the student conform to your style. Therefore I embrace an eclectic style. Each student will present with some king of dominant learning style. They will be primarily visual, auditory, conceptual or experiential.
