I graduated from the University of Maine "with distinction" and as a memeber of the Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society. My teaching experience began with the Upward Bound Program where I taught Language Arts and provided in-home tutoring in a diversity of subjects. I then worked for the Penobscot Job Corps Program, a program designed to provide vocational training to “culturally and economically disadvantaged youth." I believe that each student learns in their own unique fashion. When I work one on one with a student, I first talk with them (and look at previous writing samples) to try and determine how best to tutor them. Some students benefit if I hide their papers and ask them to talk their way through the main points and arguments of their essays (and then compare and contrast what they said to me to their actual arguments in their paper to see if information has been left out or if there is excess information), and others benefit from reading their paper out loud to catch errors or awkward phrasing.
