RN for 16 years. Have been teaching at the college level for 3 yrs as a nursing instructor. Currently working on my MSN in nursing education. Have tutored elementary students in the past in reading, writing, spelling, math etc. Teaching is my passion whether its adults or children!! My preferred style of teaching is student-lead. I believe in the Socratic method, but appreciate following a curriculum, as well. I volunteer at a Montessori school and I know that getting learners of all ages interested and excited about a topic is the key to retention. For the past two years, I have been teaching journal-writing and college classes at the Louisville Comprehensive Care MS Center. Prior to that, I have tutored students ages 7-40 in a various set of topics, primarily math and business subjects.

During the pursuit of my degrees I worked tirelessly to excel. While in school I volunteered as a tutor for the local Boys and Girls Club. I tutored middle school and high school students in literature, math, science and history. Due to my degree in Library Science I have extensive knowledge in writing term papers and research methods. I believe that all children can be successful academically with the right encouragement and guidance. I believe in showing students the correct way to do the task at hand, and them coaching to explore the materials themselves. I have taken many courses over an extended period of time. In 2002 I entered the Surgical Technology program at Jefferson Technical College; I managed a 4.00 and missed only a couple of days. During the many testing phases of the program I stayed and helped get other students through the program, I was commended on my drive and determination to help other students, all while maintaining my grade average. I pulled down some of the highest scores in the programs history. This didn't go unnoticed, as shortly after graduation I was asked by the Dean of Allied Health and Surgical Technology Program Coordinator to come back and teach. I taught all of the prerequisite core classes, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Human Growth and Development and Medical Terminology.
