A Little Bit About Me...

My experience began as a teacher in the public school system where I taught for three years in an elementary setting. Following this, I worked as a teacher and Tutorial Coordinator in a deaf school for four years. I instructed middle school students in all subjects but tutored all age and developmental levels. As a student attending Florida State University's Civil Engineering program I was required to regularly learn, understand and apply complex mathematical equations, and scientific concepts to both hypothetical and real world problems. A Little Bit About Me...

I started out volunteering at my children's Mother's Day Out Program where I taught very young children and nurtured them to learn that it was OK for mom to leave because she always came back. We had circle time, learned the basics, how to share, give, receive, pray, hug and make friends. From there I graduated to a more formal training i.e. preschool, where I actually planned lessons and age appropriate curriculum. From there I progressed to substitute teaching elementary and secondary students. Many of the things in life that we don't "get" are things we don't understand. When teaching, I try to break things down and simplify them so they can be easily understood. Often the kids in my class are those who do not like to be challenged, so I incorporate a lot of questions to provoke thinking and problem solving on their own. Since repetition is a key component to learning, I review a lot which requires patience but pays great dividends in the long run.
