I have been teaching in the elementary and middle school classrooms for 13 years. I have worked as an after school tutor during many school years with 5-12 graders. In addition to the tutoring, I also directed an after school gifted and talented program where students engineered, designed, and created new inventions. I was a counselor at Camp Invention during the year 2011 which was another opportunity to engage students in learning outside of the classroom. I have been the director of Spring Break school in urban Kansas City which was an intensive tutoring program for students.

Educating the youth-academically, socially, and mentally.

Student needs to first be extrinsically motivated with a goal of intrinsic motivation. Motivation is key in learning.
I am a second year teacher. I taught 4th grade last year, and will be teaching 5th grade this school year. I am certified in both Missouri and Kansas. I obtained my degree from UMKC. 15 plus years of educating young children

I have taught Early Childhood Education since 2000 to 2002 at Angel Academy Preschool. Later, I worked with children through the Y.M.C.A of Port Huron, Michigan and Lenawee County, Michigan. I helped school age children with homework in the afternoons and during the day taught preschool. While attending junior College I tutored students struggling with math. After graduating college I began substitute teaching in Michigan for elementary school children. I became a mother in 2011 and stayed home with my children for a few years, and then went back to substituting. In 2016, I earned my certification in Missouri and have worked with preschool age and elementary age children for the past 4.5 years.
I prefer a hybrid teaching style. If a standard teaching style was working for the student then they most likely would not need tutoring.

I believe that all teachers should be life-long learners. All teachers should be informed on new best practices and be knowledgeable of current educational policies. These are the reasons that I belong to TESOL and the International Reading Association. In addition to belonging to these organizations, I have continued to pursue new knowledge by attending graduate classes at the University of Kansas. After I received my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 1994, I continued my studies and received both my reading specialist and ESL endorsements. Currently, I teach reading to struggling readers as well as to students who are learning English as a second language. In addition, I tutor Native American students through the NASS program. I find these experiences very rewarding.
I enjoy working with all children. During the past twenty years, I had the opportunity to w ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating with an Early Childhood/Elementary degree, I took the 3-6 year old Montessori training. I began teaching in a private Montessori school for 5 years. I then worked part time in various positions including substituting for 10 years while my daughters were in school. I was the Director of a Head Start daycare in the inner city which serviced many refugees. For the last 3 years I have taught 2nd grade in a typically hispanic school in the inner city.
Teaching has always been a passion of mine. Watching a student light up after learning how to do something is the greatest thing for me. I believe children can learn and be successful but each in different ways. I believe we as teachers must use differentiated instruction to help all students learn. My students learn immediately that I care about them and desire for them to be successful learners. I ask them to do ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed working with children, especially in a school setting. I am very good at working one-on-one with people and tailoring my communication and teaching style to best fit the student or listener. I am very keen at ascertaining the needs and personalities of many different people and I am very patient and adept at listening. I enjoy seeing a child's eyes light up once he or she has grasped a difficult concept or conquered a tough subject. I believe that education is one of the most influential forces in shaping a child's development and I love to get the opportunity to be a part of that.
I have been tutoring for many years with different kinds of children. To begin with, I tutored my younger sister starting when she was about seven years old to age twelve or thirteen. In high school, I also volunteered for an after-school program for Hispanic children ages sev ... read more

Through all of my work related experience, teaching has been the one thing that I loved and felt completely comfortable doing. I believe that every child can learn, but that they often need individual attention and a variety of strategies and techniques used in order to find the one that fits. I teach most often in an investigations approach, learning through experience and experimentation. I believe this hands on learning helps to cement information in a person's memory.
I tutored a fellow student in Finite Mathematics during college for one semester. I earned a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology, working hard to finish my degree in three years. I recently took online classes in order to achieve my Masters of Science in Education. I have worked with many different types of learners so it is not difficult for me to pinpoint what learning styles they have. As a teacher, it is my job to communicate effectively and conform to a student's unique qualities in achieving academic successes.
I enjoy every aspect of teaching. I began in 1987 as a teacher's aide in Georgia. I was later able to return to college to complete my degree in Elementary Education. I have worked as a preschool teacher, elementary teacher, middle school and high school teacher, and I have tutored in Reading, Math, and Science. Much of my methods are based on what I have experienced through the years.

I love working with children, and over my many years of being in school I have witnessed all types of teaching styles. When I began teaching myself, I developed a style that allows the children to think for themselves in order to gain academic success. My goals are to provide the student with the critical thinking skills necessary to solve problems and reach their true potential.
Throughout my education, English and writing have always been my best subjects. I am currently a junior at Rockhurst University studying children's speech therapy, and I have 2 years experience teaching English as a second language in Thailand. I have tutored many students of all ages while working abroad, and my experiences have developed into a passion for helping others become better in all subjects.

When I teach, I am very nurturing and I want to make sure that my students are fond of the learning process. I like to bring a sense of humor to my classroom and not only provide the best education possible, but also provide an enjoyable learning atmosphere. I like when students are provided hands-on learning experiences and I plan to use them frequently when teaching. I prefer to be a guide and a facilitator instead of ruler when I teach, ensuring that the student and I hold a mutual respect and trust. I am quick to build a good rapport with students and believe that this helps me be an educator who they will remember and will make a difference in their lives.
