I have 25 years experience in the civil engineering field, specifically the water resources area. I started substitute teaching at both the Lincoln Community High School and Hartem School District in 2009. I also started tutoring for Lincoln College in the Academic Success Center, last year. I tutor biology, chemistry, but especially math of all levels ... including statistics and geometry. I believe that each child/adult has a learning style unique to them. Finding what works and what makes learning fun, to me, are critical to success, especially to struggling learners. Positive reinforcement and encouragement are critical, as well.
My background includes teaching at the elementary level and at the adult education level, especially literacy. I spent 10 years directing an adult literacy program where I trained volunteers to be tutors and tutored myself. During that time I took an intensive training course on working with people with learning disabilities. I have worked with ESOL students, as well.

I am good at drawing students out of their shell, and figuring out how they can be most comfortable with academics to benefit the most from their education. My knowledge in the area of psychology of education helps me greatly understand that everybody has a different learning style. If everybody has a different learning style, teaching cannot perform in an uniform manner. It must be varied in order to meet every student's need. Being an educator I know some students are visual others are auditive. With the visual students teaching must include images and with the auditive students sounds must be used.
