A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a Special Education Teacher since 1998 and have most enjoyed and excelled with students through teaching reading skills. I have exceptional skills in motivating students to learn how to read. I passed the Reading Teacher Certification Test in November and am waiting for my official certificate with Reading Teacher added. I have 7 1/2 years of teaching special education in Illinois and Missouri.I am an IL certified Reading Teacher. I have been volunteer tutoring literacy students for the Springfield and Cantrall School Districts.
My goal is to enhance the knowledge of children through the implementation of their best learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or tactile) and to motivate the students to pursue further learning and personal experience in the topic we are studying. More About This Tutor...

After graduating from college with a degree in English, I pursued a career in the corporate field. I did not find it satisfying and yearned to return to school to pursue a master's in education. I began substitute teaching in spring of 2007 and completed my student teaching in December 2007. I have been teaching English since I finished student teaching and have been a tutor at Sylvan for some time. I tutor all areas, from beginning to advanced reading and math, writing, study skills, and ACT prep. I am driven by the success of my students, both in the classroom and at Sylvan.
I enjoy teaching a great deal. I love children, and believe every child has the capacity to succeed. My job is not only to give children the content knowledge, but to build their self-esteem and help them realize their own potential.
