I am a native Hispanic born and raised in a Spanish speaking home. I work as a professional translator at a local medical office. I have worked with youth and adults on different levels of learning. I worked in the special education department at a local Middle school as well so I have school setting experience. I am very fluent in both English and Spanish.
I believe teaching should be fun and creative in order to capture and maintain student's attention. I use visual aides or fun phrases that will enlighten the stress of learning another language. I believe that different teaching styles help different students. A method of both lecture and active learning can be effective for the widest range of students. This allows the students to get a brief introduction to the day’s material before they work in groups on questions about the material. I feel that student’s can learn best from each other because they are all at the same level. If a group is unsure of an answer they can always ask the teacher or look it up in a book. Finally, active learning demands that the students find the answers instead of being told them. This will benefit them greatly once they join the work force.
