A Little Bit About Me...

As far as possible, I adapt my teaching style to my students' needs. When I was teaching beginner-level German to an adult opera singer, I focused on helping her develop her conversational skills and pronunciation, using English to explain difficult concepts. By contrast, when teaching a beginner-level 12-year-old, I used a total German language immersion approach and built on my student's love of creative writing by asking her to write her own endings to traditional German short stories. In general, I believe in a natural language acquisition approach that gives students opportunities to practice, make mistakes, and learn from them. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is to catch up mistakes and correct them but my priority is in teaching by showing examples or patterns, by practicing repetitions, by having learner write. For instance, when I took the initiative of teaching french to my newborn (now a teen), I used to flip and "read" small colorful one-large-drawing-per-page books with a noun written with its article. Afterwards, every so often and when the child is ready, to go up one level of difficulty, I did just that and my child spoke fluently with complete sentences at age 13 months. Today, her french is so clear that no one could guess she also speaks english.

Coming from a poor background I was very much determined to change my family economic situation. I work hard and smart to make this happen and in the process I have acquired training and learning skills that will empower students from every background. In 1998 I founded a non-profit organization GHAPE and I have been providing varied trainings to the needy to explore their potentials. In 2008 I was an adjunct professor at the University of Bridgeport. I will again be teaching one course to undergraduate in the Fall of 2010.
My teaching methods are determined by my audience, that is the student. I use lecture method, inquiry, demonstration, visualization, questions and answers, discovery and constructivism which is a student center appraoch.
