I have become very adept at determining what level each student is at and tailoring my teaching style to suit the students that I am working with. In a class of over 20, I was able to reach each student with modified lessons and assignments. In the case of individual tutoring, I move at a rate that challenges the student while giving them ample opportunities to feel successful. It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation. I believe in practice and examples as the clearest path to success. I don't hand deliver answers and I make the process towards answers engaging. I make sure the time and place are conducive to active and non-distractive learning. I relay the importance and relevance of the material. I recap previous lessons and try to integrate them into current assignments. I always value and respect people and expect the same of my students.

As an educator in math and science, subjects viewed by many students as “hard” or “boring,” I strongly believe that these fields need not be viewed this way. Teachers who have a strong background in math and science, such as myself, can more easily relate class work to everyday life and career prospects, making the subject more relevant and interesting. I believe that when teaching any subject, one must start with a clear set of objectives and goals which are to be realized by the end of the teaching session. It is the responsibility of the educator to modify his or her lesson plans to best meet the needs of the student. At the same time, the lesson must not just provide the information needed, but allow the student to immerse themselves in the subject matter and strive beyond basic understanding.
