Flute is one of my top subjects! Began playing in 2002

Hello! My name is Anna. I started playing flute in 2002 in Elementary School, and thoroughly fell in love with it. By 2004 I decided to begin competing, and so I did. I continued on competing throughout the years and participated in several classes in school for band students. In middle school, I began picking up random instruments and learning them, though I never did progress. I can play other instruments, but I'm not able to teach anything other then Flute/Piccolo. As you can see, once I hit high school, most of the awards stopped. I didn't audition because of the stress of battling with grades and practicing long hours. Preparing for competitions stressed me out beyond belief, so I quickly began practicing on my own terms. I never did stop playing flute, though I did stop competing. My comments on tutoring Flute : I learned to play the flute in High School. I have been playing for more than 20 years. I can read music and can teach how to read music.

I have taught 5th Grade Math and Science, 3rd Grade, 2nd Grade as an Interventionist, Kindergarten, and most recently Advanced Math and Language Arts / ESOL/CIVICS in and Adult GED/HiSet program. I have the ability to motivate and light the fire of interest in my students by incorporating in my teaching full emersion projects. Using an approach that fully immerses my students in the subject they are learning gives them the opportunity to learn firsthand instead of being merely a receiver of information. I call this approach “Walk a mile”. I have used this approach in many of my student teaching as well as substituting experiences. For example, in a second grade class that was learning about reading maps I became Pirate Scary Sherry and took the students on a treasure hunt.
