I began tutoring privately,as well as,for my school's learning center during the early 1990's. I have continued tutoring privately on and off for the past twenty years. I was a substitute teacher in California and Michigan during the 2000's. I also had my own high school level classroom in California for two school years. I was hired on an "Emergency Credential" because I had my BS but no teaching credential. I was laid off due to budget cuts in June of 2003. I also taught "at-risk" elementary age children during the summer for the Glendora Unifed School District in Glendora, CA. My comments on tutoring Genetics : I have a post doctorate in Genetics

I always tailor my teaching style to the personality and needs of my students with the objective of helping them to become the best they can be. I am patient, kind and friendly at the same time firm and structured when it comes to learning. I use this approach with my own children and after I am done teaching them a portion of a topic I always make them talk about it to check their cognitive recall. I have found that appreciation for every milestone achieved goes a long way.

As a student at the University of Detroit Mercy, I worked as a tutor for two years. I helped other students struggling in mathematics and biology classes. Also, my senior year in college I worked as a Teaching Assistant for a Microbiolgy lab. In addition, I did student teaching for a Catholic Middle School.
Many people have different teaching skills and techniques. I do not believe any technique to educate a child is better than any other technique. Each child learns differently. Understanding the fact that children learn differently is crucial. The teacher must be able to adapt to the child's learning style. I do not believe that there is a single correct teaching style. Each student is an individual and as in any other task we take on, it must be approached in a unique manner. I have tutored enough students to learn that simply put, different children learn differently.
