20 years experience in mostly urban school settings. Experience with students with disabilities. Written curriculum for living environment, earth science and chemistry. Proficient in computer technology and excellent track record in passing regents exams. Attended CIBT summer July 2014 where I learned cutting edge lab techniques and worked with Cornell equipment. Using this equipment allows me to borrow equipment, labs or bringing professors to the school I teach. I use STEM lessons along with cross curriculum lessons in my teaching.
I believe all students can succeed. I use a multi sensory approach to my teaching to allow all students to learn. I also believe in hands on learning in science. I commend respect from my students and have excellent classroom management.

My comments on tutoring Chemistry : I received my BS in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry with honors in 2010. I have taken and received A's in 2 inorganic classes, 2 organic classes. I have taken and received high marks in biochemistry.

I have tutored one-on-one as well as to large groups. My focus is on college level science classes. I feel that bringing creative and unique methods to learning helps student overcome their dispassion or fear. My sessions aim to be positive and motivating. Although I have won numerous awards for my creativity, and presentation methods, the greatest reward have been the smiling faces of my students after the course when they brag about their final grades. Let me show you that you can succeed in science.

I have worked tutoring since I was in College. I used to help students in different subjects, specially english, spanish, math and chemistry. As a native spanish speaker I enjoyed assisting international students improve thier fluency and proficiency in the language. I completed a Food Science degree at San Francisco University in Quito, Ecuador, where I'm from. After graduating from University, I started working at a Confectionery Company in Quito. Working for the Research and Development Department, helped me gain important experience in the Food Industry. Among the main responsabilities at work, I had to run lab trials to come up with a desired formulation for new products in many categories such as chocolates, candies and chewing gum. In addition, I designed their manufacture process and carried out shelf life studies. During my time there I also trained and tutored workers in the p ... read more

I have taught high school math for over twelve years. I tutor math and chemistry students. I hold degrees in engineering (BS Civil Engineering, MS Environmental Engineering) and education (MA Educational Administration). My engineering training has taught me the level of hands-on mathematics required to succeed in college degree programs. I strive to prepare all my students for success at this level. Good mathematical mechanics must be augmented by a thorough conceptual understanding. I excel at identifying and correcting student deficiencies.
To serve students in a tutorial setting, I first determine a student's current level of understanding. As specific gaps in understanding are identified, targeted instruction is used to fill in those gaps. Many times work on fundamental concepts or mechanics is required to achieve true and lasting success in the content area. Students ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is really what I take pride in and consider myself proficient at. As a co-founder of Read for the Stars, I helped developed a program for at risk, elementary level, inner city students which involved traditional, sit-down tutoring as well as active learning in order to serve the greatest amount of students possible. As a resident assistant for freshmen males, I have learned how to handle crisis situations and tailor my teaching style to all types of personalities. My favorite part of teaching is seeing the finished product and the gratification students feel when their hard work has allowed them to succeed, because that is when I know I have done everything I needed to do and set out to do.
As a graduate of a small, liberal arts college, I feel that I have a unique perspective on learning. With over 50 credits for my BS in Biochemistry as well as my “core” (including En ... read more

During my time at the Rochester Institute of Technology, I was a student grader while working towards my B.S. in Computational Mathematics. I obtained my degree with Highest Honors, and an overall GPA of 3.88. I graded mostly college algebra and early calculus. I was required to do the same homework and quizzes the students did, and create answer keys. Then, I would go through each problem and either give full credit for a correct answer and work, or partial credit if needed. By following their work, I was able to see where they made mistakes, and write in notes on what they needed to do. I will be returning to RIT for a second bachelor’s degree, in Industrial Engineering, which also requires a strong math background.
As a tutor, I will examine the student’s work process and correct them where they start to go wrong. One of the reasons I did so well in school was because I a ... read more

I enjoy working with students of all ages. I believe that every student has amazing potential that can be reached with the right help. I am easy going and patient, understanding that we all learn a little differently.
I recently earned a BS in studio art and my interests extend into math, sciences, and reading. This desire for knowledge spurred me to begin a second major in chemistry, enabling me to continue my math and science courses. Additionally I have an associates degree in graphic design. I tutored chemistry at the college level, and have helped my younger siblings with their middle school and high school homework. I have also assisted with elementary age students for years.

A Little Bit About Me...

Once in a classroom I realized that I was meant to teach. I love working with students who are challenging and those who challenge me. I believe that I can become a better teacher only by continually challenging myself and my students. The key phrase “engaging students” seems less than what is required in the classroom. I want my students to be engaged but I want them to encompass and enjoy what they are doing as well. I love technology and new method topics; I have a very strong math and science background as well as excellent written and verbal presentation skills. I was a hands on learner and often use hands on methods to teach when possible. I have taught every level from kindergarten to college level and feel comfortable doing so.
I am interested in tutoring because I love teaching regardless of the subject matter. I’ve been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to try se ... read more

I have a deep understanding of mathematics and physics developed through a rigorous biomedical engineering curriculum. I also minored in optics which enhanced my skills in math and physics. After university I volunteer taught with the non-profit WorldTeach. I spent one year in Micronesia teaching high school mathematics. The following year I continued to volunteer with WorldTeach in Colombia.
After my first year teaching in Micronesia, I developed a true passion for teaching. I loved being in the classroom and working with children. I have developed patience and leadership qualities through teaching experience and coaching youth soccer. I am a practical teacher and like to use real life problems to help students understand the material. I like to relate the material to students interests.

More About This Tutor...

In my final semester as a TA at Maine, I was assigned instructing Chemistry lab to a class that was regarded by some as "difficult" and "slow". The students were largely Forestry majors for whom Chemistry was a required course that had little to do with their major and in which there was little interest. I found that treating them with respect and dignity resulted in more receptiveness on their part. Rather than talking "at" them, I talked "to" them and explained the experiments using analogy with everyday experiences. To my supervisor's astonishment, I even had some students coming to me for extra help, with the result that they all passed the course with a grade of C or better.
My high school Chemistry instructor had a profound impact on me. Although the subject was a difficult one, his passion for it was so infectious that, by the end of my junior year, I WANTED to be a chemist. ... read more

I spent five semesters tutoring students at the Study Center at Southampton College. In my professional life I have a great deal of experience in manufacturing, including positions as a Plant Chemist and a R&D Chemist.
I enjoy teaching, especially on a one-to-one basis. I firmly believe that the more interactive teaching is, the more effective it is, and therefore, there is greater retention.
