A Little Bit About Me...

French is my second language which I read and write since I was in third grade. I have earned an Associate in Art from community college, and I'm working on my BA in French. As a student in UMSL university,I'm practicing my French daily which is contributing in expanding my knowledge about French culture. I also work on helping the kids learning French while I'm volunteer in God's Small World preschool. As a native speaker for the Arabic language, I believe that I'm able to teach students in a way that make them fluent in reading, writing and speaking the language. Collaborative & Fun Teacher

I worked in the financial sector for 10 years and have a Master's Degree in Economics and Finance. Since then I have focused my efforts into freelance teaching, and have worked with students in a variety of subjects: chess, math, finance, language arts, history, piano, and writing, among others. Other subjects I’ve studied informally: literature, language, history, politics & government.
I believe that each student has a unique learning style of that must be discovered in real-time. Therefore I tailor the lessons towards an open, organic, collaborative process. I focus on small incremental steps designed to build momentum and flow states, which is the best way to start anything. The goal of any lesson is to bring the student to a place where they can learn on their own. The purpose of learning is fun!

My comments on tutoring Reading : I have always been an avid reader. My favorite genres include classic religious writings, Romantic Age poetry, current and ancient philosophy, and some quality fiction.

I was homeschooled at a higher academic standard than public schools. As a current senior at Pensacola Christian College, I have recieved a steller education in English, as well as Bible and Biblical Greek. The usefullness of understanding Biblical Greek and being able to study the Bible in its original languages cannot be overemphasized. This is where I would like to spend my tutoring time, although I will be willing to help in basic English, Writing, or Reading.
The most effective teaching takes place whent he teacher presents the information clearly and then gives the student ample opportunity to put it into practice, with the teacher watching and assisting.

Finding learning solutions one learner at a time!

I have 25 plus years experience in teaching children and adults. I am currently working on my PhD in education with an emphasis on curriculum and instruction. I enjoy working one-on-one as well as in a classroom setting. Since I am completing my current studies online, I have a good understanding of online learning and studying style. I am a firm believer that everyone can learn and I love helping unlock the key to learning for someone struggling with a problem. There is no stupid question - only those that have not yet been asked.
I believe each student has an optimum learning style and I try to match my teaching strategies to that style. When working with adults, I try to establish motivations for learning first and then move on to the next step - how best to master the infomration or skill.

Live to Learn - Learn to Live!

Taught ESL for more than twenty-five years across Canada and internationally. Lived and taught in Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Costa Rica and United States. I was a teacher-trainer for Oxford Seminars, where I taught teacher-candidates how to teach ESL for international classrooms. I was responsible for instructing and then certifying teacher-candidates. Tutoring without Tears.

Students learn best when they feel safe to explore and learn from past mistakes. In fact, 'mistakes' should be viewed as opportunities to improve skills and learning strategies. I use 'play therapy' most often to teach skills and strategies. Multiple studies have demonstrated that children learn best through play.
I have 30+ years of experience helping students with a variety of disabilities which include language disorders. My experience encompasses Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary, Middle, High School, and post-secondary. I have helped students with ADD/ADHD, Autism/Aspergers/PDD-NOS, learning disabilities, multiple disabilities, medically fragile, language impaired and ESL (English as a Second Language).
