Life and destiny urged me to earn a teacher's certification in Texas, where I later worked as an ESL 4th-5th grade teacher in the Waco (Texas) Independent School District for three years. A move to Kentucky to be closer to my aging mother resulted in six years of working as the Adair County School District's Gifted and Talented Coordinator and ESL/ELL Coordinator. I am a very patient teacher. If it seems someone is 'just not getting it' I will try a different approach. People learn at different levels, and what works for one does not always work for another; therefore,finding the way for each individual student is the key. I have also found that most people learn a task by 'hands on' learning, not listening to how it should be done. In this situation, giving someone the tools to do the work themselves gives them the confidence to do it, and feel good about conquering the challenge.
