In my disciplines, the value of understanding totally outweighs rote memorization and learning of “recipes” for solving problems. I believe students understand new concepts in terms of their previous experience and background. I attempt to link previous experience to new experience and promote meaningful learning. I like to accommodate to a child's personality and likes to help them to learn through distinct processes. When given the opportunity in the correct manner, children can learn most of what is put in front of them. By using example catered specifically to certain children, they are able to connect to the tutor as well as the subject. As a tutor, I am kind, laid-back and patient. Younger kids seem to gravitate to me, while the older kids relate to me.
