My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : Extremely proficient in this area. I use a speech based method associated to appropriate letters and increase attention to listening and articulation.

I love teaching. I earned my BA before I was old enough to vote. While my classmates were in his/her senior year, I was teaching. Eventually I earned my M.Ed. in Reading, then started School Administration and Adult Education. In all these fields I find similar necessary skills: patience, co-operation among staff and colleagues, knowledge of subject matter, communication with the community and parents and a well defined curriculum. My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I worked at the mathew dickey's boys' club with student's ranging from the 2nd through 6th grade on all subject matters. However, I'm naturally gifted in writing, grammar, physicology, biochemistry and anatomy. Relative to grammar, I was on the journalism team all four years of high school, serving as managaing editor, and sports editor, and was the only writer ot be granted free-lance editorial writing. Learning can be hard. Memorization can be hard. Knowing how to determine the proper equation to use in a chemistry or math equation can be hard. What I focus on with my students is not simply telling them the information and how they should go about finding the right answer but, more importantly, why the answer they are choosing is correct. What that does is to force them to learn the actual skill and when to use a given equation or what a sign or symbol indicates in terms of the type of problem they are trying to solve. By doing this, I find, the student is able to get to the core of not simply stuffing equations, grammar terms, or scientific terminology in their heads and then unloading them on the test. My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : Having taught young children in grades K-3 reading for many years, phonics is a necessary tool for children to learn in order to read well. Most schools do not teach this vital concept anymore, but when a child does not know a word on sight, they must have some tools in order to figure it out o their own using the letter sounds, etc.

I am a retired elementary school teacher and taught for over 15 years in the St. Louis area public/private schools. I taught mainly in grades K-5, but do have Kindergarten and Preschool experience as well. I also have taught in the St. Louis Community College system as a substitute professor and also an instructor in the reading/writing lab.
