All-subject ACT/SAT/GRE/LSAT tutoring! Law and economics too

I bring a friendly and patient approach to tutoring. I know hiring a tutor can be a challenging process and a tough decision to make. Accordingly, I promise to make the lessons as enjoyable as possible, while ensuring you (or your child) truly understand the material. I owe it to my students to make the material fun and interesting.
I have over 5000 hours (nearly 10 years) of tutoring experience, including the SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT and other selected subjects. I have been helping high school and college students get accepted to undergraduate and graduate programs all over the United States, including UF, Michigan, Stanford, FSU, UCF, and many others. My first teaching experience was with the Department of Juvenile Justice when I was fresh out of college. It was, believe it or not, a lot of fun! Helping learners find solutions to their problems is my passion. My greatest strength is compassion. I believe that anyone can achieve. I enjoy helping others discover their innate joy of learning. I thrive on seeing the "light" in a learner's eyes. It drives me with a determination to find the best way to help each individual become a lifelong learner.
I was a teaching assistant throughout high school. I graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi. I was selected to teach intensive intervention and pursued my Master’s degree with a concentration in remedial reading. I hear and I forget. I see and I remember.I do and I get it.

The experience I have gained while studying Education and Psychology, along with administrating exams for Wonderlic Scholoastic Testing and tutoring has enabled me to learn through understanding, hard work and dedication. I have learned through extensive courses in Psychology on how we learn, education courses that break learning down, and working with children and adolescence for over ten years with tutoring and patience, that with the proper tools and guidance, anything can be achieved.
I believe that implementing the right tools, along with clearly stating what the student needs to learn, along with discussion, will ensure student success.Using multisensory resources, creatively using the newly formed knowledge, along with pre-testing will foster memory and recall.

Reading is one of my top subjects!

My approach to tutoring is that all students are capable of learning. Kids often benefit from a fresh perspective and it is my job to make them more confident again. I try to explain to the students that once the rules are understood it becomes simple to get to the final result. To start my tutoring processing, I try to identify what is needed to improve the defiance of the student. Then I try to see what method works best for the student. Thirdly, I go over the rules for the subject and write those down for the student to use as a guide to solve problems. And fourthly, we work at similar exercises of my own or from the book. I also provide references to material that can help advance the student knowledge. I believe in repetition, using new words or rules in a language environment, connected with the student’s personal experience or attitude, which enables a student to memorize th ... read more

More About This Tutor...

During my undergraduate, I had multiple field studies in middle and high school classes. I also had to tutor elementary students through my college for certain reading classes. During my last semester, I filled a permanent substitute position for 7th grade intensive reading. In the 2022-2023 school year, I taught STEM language arts for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.
My teaching style focuses on modeled and guided discussions so that students can talk through their understanding so I can remediate and reteach to ensure that they are learning and they find confidence in their learning.

My comments on tutoring Reading : Is my best subject and I teach it phonetically. I believe that sounding out the words is the easiest way for comprehension. Certain rules must be applied though for words that sound the same.

When you choose me as your tutor you are getting the advantage of not only my teaching skills but the benefit from my private Life Coaching Practice. In my practice I work with all types of people coaching them to sound thinking and to positive goals for success. For over 30 years I have been teaching, writing and administering basic life skills in all levels of learning in all aspects of Communications which have included: visualization, non-verbal skills, speaking, writing, teaching basic computer skills, assertive listening skills, conversation etiquette and public speaking. Most people are totally unaware that there is such a thing as developing good conversation etiquette. I have worked with elementary children, as well as my own, high schoolers, college students helping them with resumes, essays, reports, and thesis, and adults who were taking adult education.

Brain Builder-Building the Brain without the Pain

I have learned through my experiences of teaching individuals with disabilities that a great teacher needs to be flexible in their teaching styles. I am very self-reflective and am constantly looking for ways to help students overcome difficulties with learning. I have a very energetic teaching style and am enthusiastic about learning different subjects as well.
I have been in the teaching field for close to 10 years. My experience has consisted of teaching Special Education and Adults with Disabilities. I also have had experience teaching Elementary and Middle School students in Reading and Math. I have a Masters degree in English Education from the University of South Florida. I am also a Florida Certified teacher in English 6-12 with Reading and ESOL Endorsements and ESE K-12.

My comments on tutoring Reading : Extensive experience and training in Reading instruction for grades 6-adult, both in and out of classrooms.

I believe that all students can and will achieve academic success given appropriate instruction; i.e., instruction that is differentiated according to students' specific needs, learning styles, interests, and personal goals. As a classroom teacher and as a personal tutor, I have seen almost miraculous results in a relatively short period of time, both in terms of academic achievement and student confidence. Passion and enthusiasm for learning is contagious, and I am a carrier. For a dedicated instructor, nothing is more satisfying than watching a student "catch" the learning bug.
After attending (and teaching in) a graduate program in American/British Literature and Language at L.S.U., I realized that my true calling was teaching. I began teaching English, Journalism, S.A.T. Prep., Latin, and other subjects in Springfield, MA in 2003 in an alternative, urban high school. I t ... read more

Reading is one of my top subjects!

Relaxed, informal- students each learn in their own way, my objective is to learn from about an individual and cater to their own educational needs.
I am a recent graduate, having majored in biology and environmental studies. During my time in college I also had the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for a genetics lab and took part in an environmental education program in New Hampshire. My science and liberal arts background makes the the ideal candidate to teach a variety of subjects in ways that are interesting and informative to students.

"Half of knowledge is knowing where to find it."

Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.
After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I have been tutoring with Advanced Learners for 1 year and am currently an Adjunct Instructor of Public Speaking at HCC Dale Mabry.
