A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been interested and active in the education field. I enjoy working individually with students, more so than in a classroom setting. I received a Master's degree in Creative Writing and a Bachelor's in English for Secondary Education, with minors in French and Creative Writing. I have been teaching Composition at a Community College and have tutored students for many years, whether in English, basic French or even math (up to and including Algebra).
I enjoy working one on one with students because it is allows me to give more in depth and detailed instruction to the student based on his or her learning style. A Little Bit About Me...

Although, I am not a certified teacher, I am currently working towards obtaining my licensure in Language Arts 7-12th grade and have taken several education related classes. I have recently obtained my BA in English and am educated in all of the current trends and graduated in the top ten percent of my class. During my time spent at Defiance College I had the pleasure of working for the Academic resource center as a writing consultant and tutor. There I helped fellow students learn how to write and research effectively. I have also volunteered my time at our local middle school where I helped instruct a fifth grade art class with special needs students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I would say that it is a little more toward laid back. Being over 6" tall, stocky, pushing hard, being an ogre, hard-nosed, that isn't going to work for me. People have a tendency to be a bit intimidated and fearful because of my size. I will use it to my advantage if it is necessary, or becomes necessary, but I've found being a little more quiet, reserved and coaxing the student to initiate the discussion is a little better. Ask leading questions, adjust and proceed, based on their response.
I have received degrees in Int'l Business from Lourdes College, as well an Associates Degree in Accounting from Owens Community College. I have earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education. I also have 33 hours beyond my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. My lastest certificate was achieved a month ago in the Orton-Gillingham Reading, Writing, and Spelling course designed to assist students with these particular learning difficulties. I received 3 hours of Graduate credit from the University of Michigan for taking this course.
I love working with a diversity of students. My main goal is to assist students in achieving their academic goals. I modify the curriculum according to their needs. I am very patient, friendly,and enthusiastic. It is quite easy for me to build a trusting relationship with my students. I have worked both in the public and private school settings.
