My first experience as a tutor was in my college tutor lab. I tutored both college level Math and Chemistry. I found that students I tutored found it easier to understand complex concepts when their individual needs could be addressed one on one. If a student does not understand a concept the first way I explain it we try again a different way, but if they do understand we can move on and not waste their time. I try to make learning fun and relate it to things that people experience in the outside world. It's so satisfying to 'see the light bulb turn on' when they are shown, for example, how a pinecone represents the Fibonacci series, or a fern a fractal.
