My teaching style is participatory. I like to ask questions of the student and have them verbalize what they know. This gives me the opportunity to identify possible gaps in their knowledge and to fill in those gaps. I also try to relate covered material to historical events. For instance, when talking about the importance of analytical chemistry, I like to talk about the Marsh test which was developed in the 1830’s as a definitive reaction for arsenic poisoning. In like manner, I like to relate covered material to the personal experiences of the student. I am a person who has spent his undergraduate years majoring in Chemistry, with Physics and Math. Thereafter, I switched my major to Biology because I wanted to do Brain Research and to do such research one has to have an interdisciplinary background. Currently, I am a PhD student majoring in Neurosciences. After my undergraduate education, I went to teach in a boarding school. I taught all science courses to students from grade 8 until grade 11. Each of those grades comprised of approximately 30 students. The kids loved me so much that they wanted to hire me for another semester but i had to go to graduate school. It’s important to be able to impart knowledge to the student smoothly and only to answer the asked questions. Too much information can cause a student to “overload”. This can make the student afraid to ask questions in the future or to think that the topic is so difficult. A good tutor will try to simplify things and brief the answers so he keeps the child interested to learn more.
I love teaching math and science to high school students up to early college levels. I have lots of experience and can be flexible in the way I teach based on the student style.
