My comments on tutoring Elementary : I have taught elementary grades for over 15 years.

My teaching style is to engage the student as much as possible and to utilize as many senses as possible. I will often use a "game" to practice a skill. When teaching a skill, my emphasis is understanding "why" something is done a particular way rather than stressing straight memorization.
I have taught "students" from age 3 to age 73. Most of my experience has been in elementary classroom situations, but I have tutored individual students, taught computer skills to business classes and senior citizens, as well as business technology classes in a community college. I am also a co-founder of a small non-graded school which has now existed for over 40 years and is recognized as an established school by the state of Ohio. I enjoy teaching and enriching the lives of those with whom I have the privilege of working.

The first thing that I like to do as a teacher is tell my students why I chose my profession. I think a little insight as to who I am, lets my students know how passionate I am about my job. All students do not learn in the same ways, nor do they learn at the same paces. It is my job to build upon my students' strengths, and make them believe that they can succeed.

While attaining my genetics degree at Ohio State, I worked at the OSU Chimpanzee Center. After graduating, I started working for the Department of Agriculture in the Weights and Measures division. It was my job to try to "trick" the scales before they could become available for commercial use. I moved back home to Coshocton when I got married. I quickly found a job teaching adults within our county's GED program.
