My style of teaching varies with the child, their age, personality, subject, and amount of time we have. Besides teaching 2nd grade religion for 14 years my daughter has ADD. I have worked with kids who need to keep moving while they learn, to kids who need complete quiet. Some kids are more visual learners; others need to act the lesson out, while others do fine quietly reading. The important thing is to make it interesting so they WANT to learn. Older kids with a higher level of maturity don't require as entertaining a lesson. They want to see how to apply what they are learning to their life. I have a BA in Elementary Education with middle school endorsements in Language Arts and Social Science. I have been working as a permanent substitute for Cahokia School District for four years. I have also done an after school program and a before school program during two of those years. I am a very compassionate and understanding person. I am willing to do whatever I need to to make sure that the students understand the material that is given to them. I love to do hands-on activities to give the students a chance to experience their learning first hand.

I consider myself to exert a demonstrator model of teaching, meaning that I help children learn through demonstrating skills and then coaching students to apply these skills. I also focus on fostering self-confidence which can encourage any child to learn new and difficult skills. I try to establish a trusting relationship with each student so that he or she will feel comfortable in the learning environment. I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Speech Communication.
