I currently work in a PreK-12 School setting as a Certified School Library Media Specialist. I am responsible for teaching Prek-6th grade library/research lessons. My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : Certified in the Wilson Language Program,2001, a reading program that is designed to teach reading skills to students with Dyslexia and other language processing difficulties. I have successfully taught from this program for 10 years (including summer programs)to students from 3rd-12th grade.

I teach according to the style that best works for the child, and I take the first couple of tutoring sessions to figure out a child's strengths, weaknesses, interests, and most effective learning style. Regardless of style, however, I believe that a multisensory approach to teaching is best for a child, as it allows teachers to tap into areas of strength of which the student may not be aware. Also, I like to use the guide books for each grade that are sold in stationary areas of most stores. For tutoring in reading I've found the Leapfrog Reading Program is very helpful. I like to meet my students at the library so that I can use the resources found in the library, including the computer.
