I enjoy helping others learn. Something in which I have always excelled is helping them look at learning something from another view point than they have been. Learning in a hands-on manner using real life situations is the best manner in teaching any subject to a student.
Over the years, I have been involved in a number of different teaching and volunteer programs including Junior Achievement and 4-H. I enjoy learning new things and sharing what I've learned with others. My background includes a variety of different jobs including retail management, the military and banking.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with kids of all ages. All children are unique and they all learn in different ways. I believe its the teachers responsibllity to understand how their students learn best and then help communicate the curriculum to them in a way that they will best uderstand and retain that knowledge.
I was homeschooled for the majority of my education which enabled me to assit my younger brothers and sisters in their studies. I taught a few Science classes including botony and a study of birds and have tutored in highschool math as well. I played volleyball, took 3 years of piano, and was a member of Chior as well. I worked as a teachers aide in a preschool for 2 years. I worked with children from the age of 6 weeks to 5 years. I plan on going to college for either business or diognostic sonography.

The opportunity presented on your institutions website is very appealing to me, and I believe that I possess the desired qualifications that will allow me to be successful at your institution. Your posting stated that there is a requirement of a Masters degree in a related field; currently I possess a Master’s of Science in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin Madison. I also have related teaching experience at the University level. I was a Teaching Assistant in the Zoology department at the University of Wisconsin Madison and most recently was a Biology lecturer at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. Science is a process by which we learn, not simply a body of knowledge to memorize. My approach to teaching biological and chemical sciences is two-pronged: to help students acquire the knowledge base necessary for understanding science, and to instill critical thinking skills through the scientific method of inquiry. I love to help students see the big picture of how various aspects of science fit together and to make connections between what they are learning and their own lives. It is these connections that spark interest and memory. When possible I prefer to incorporate a variety of active learning exercises, which can be very helpful to solidify difficult concepts and work well with many learning styles.
Attending a small liberal arts school sparked my desire to teach students in a small group setting. While my graduate course work in Biomolecular Chemistry developed my ... read more

Throughout college, I consistently worked as a tutor or mentor, specifically with minority populations. Upon graduation, I joined Teach for America and taught high school English in rural North Carolina. Since my tenure in TFA, I have taught English to students in Mexico, substitue taught for 2 years at a Waldorf school in La Crosse, WI, and currently tutor and mentor students as I attend graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Cumulatively, including extended substitute teaching situations, I have taught all grade levels 1-12 in various subjects. I would describe my teaching style as ecclectic. By this I mean that I discern which style or strategy would best accomdodate the needs of the particular child, based on their learning style. Once the child's learning style is distinguished, I would tailor my lessons/tutoring to that particular style.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have formally tutored with Madison College on two occasions lasting a year. I was also Tutoring throughout my time at Edgewood on a drop in basis with any students that came to the math department and could not reach a professor. I have a BS in Mathematics and doing math at all levels is fun for me.
I enjoy helping students work through tough problems by allowing them to make mistakes and then rework the problem a couple of times the correct way. Since this is my area of expertise, I am able to come up with examples on the fly that will target the areas most troublesome to the student. Mathematics is a field that requires repetition but making that repetition as interesting as possible is a fun challenge. I do not wish to be a teacher by profession but I do enjoy helping individuals or small groups with science and mathematics.

At the end of my undergraduate work at UW-Oshkosh, I was asked to intern for the Baraboo School District in place of student teaching . Working with fourth graders was the beginning of my life as an educator. After five years of teaching, I changed grade levels and taught fifth grade for four years. I recently graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering. I have taken extensive courses in math and science. Math and science are fields that I love and excel at. While in undergrad I was active in many student organizations and volunteer opportunities. I volunteered at science olympiad for a year and also tutored middle school students. There is no better moment that when a child becomes engaged and starts understanding and asking questions. Once a child starts asking questions you know that they are excited about it and want to learn. When teaching my goal is always to get children excited about what they are doing and then proceed from there. All children have different strengths and I try to work from those strengths.

In my Masters in Teaching program we are learning about differentiation and working to find the best vehicle by which to present information to students. For example, if a student has a talent and passion for music, perhaps setting some of their social studies and science materials to song will help them better absorb the information. Also, the best way to create connections in students minds is to have them learn and then create something representing their learning. Perhaps they learn about an era of history and then they act out a scene that may have happened, or they visually represent a science concept. I also am a very organized person with good study habits that I can model for your student and help them put into practice.

I enjoy teaching and working with individuals of all ages. I believe that someone who is passionate about their field of work transmits that passion to others. I seek the opportunity to help a child grasp their learning potential and to help them display academic sucess. I am patient, a good listener, and I have the ability to explain the same concept in many different ways. I have also had the opportunity to grasp the attention of a student whom everyone considered troublesome, that student needed time and patience, and I gladly gave it to him. I believe that when we teach, we also grow in our own knowledge.

I primarily teach through activities and ideas suited to meet each individual's need. Through the interpersonal contact and motivation I provide, I feel that I help the student to desire to improve their knowledge and perform better. Depending on the student, I can be an enthusiastic or a calm teacher. By taking courses such as child psychology, I am able to understand which teaching methods and interaction styles work best for each person. I think the best method of teaching is doing practice problems and hands-on work as well as addressing problems expressed by each student.
