My comments on tutoring American History : I'm most knowledgeable about 19th century American history.

I received my MA in the History of Art from the University of Georgia in August of 2010 and specialize in modern and contemporary art. I believe that an appreciation of art and its history is best cultivated by examining the major themes and tropes of past art and design and structurally linking it to the social history and art of later periods and when possible to local art. I have a broad education in all periods of art, but I'm most proficient with art from the mid 18th-21st centuries. I teach art appreciation as an adjunct instructor and am currently curating an exhibit of photographic prints and illustrations at the Nashville Public Library. I like to work with students of any age. It is my belief that any person with a desire to learn can learn. I strive to make learning fun, practical, and related to real world application to help make the student want to learn the material more actively.
I have been involved in higher education since my 2nd year of college. After graduating in 1996, I opened my own tutoring service in Dickson, TN. I tutored individuals from public schools and home school in Math, Reading, and several other subjects needed until 2001. At this time I left Dickson and moved to Clarksville, TN and tutored with A+ Math tutoring intil 2006.
Seeing the look and smile on the face of a student that finally grasps a concept, or realizes they have just read on their own for the first time, OH What a Feeling!!! I take each child as their own individual knowing they have their own needs in learning a subject. I teach in several different ways as to ensure the child grasps what they need. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with students and showing them the joy of learning. I believe that children learn most in small groups and one on one environments. I believe that children learn best when they feel respected. I think that everyone has skills and talents to offer. I try to help my students find their own gifts and work to allow them to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
I hold a bachelor's degree in Political Science, which focused on writing and research. I earned an alternative teaching certification, which allowed me to work as an inclusion teacher at the middle school level, which allowed me to spend a great deal of time working with small groups and in one on one settings. I have taught life sciences, Earth sciences, world geography, and United States history. I also have a year's experience of tutoring beginning reading.
