When a question is asked, I am not going to simply just tell the student the answer. I would want them to think it out and try and figure it out for themselves. I would however guide them in the right direction and even ask them other questions they may know in order for them to figure out the intial problem. I feel that these types of interactions are a more effective way of learning. Also, writing things down helps tremedously because not only are you thinking it, but you're seeing it and reading it as well. I am a very easy person to get along with, and I am also very encouraging. I enjoy helping others whether it's in an academic environment or not.

I worked at Kent State in the writing center tutoring writing while in college. I also worked as a teacher's assistant for Canton City Schools from January 2005 until May 2007. I have been a substitute teacher since January 2008. I teach language arts and elementary math in elementary school. In high school I generally substitute teach in various subjects. As a full time student and a full time employee of the General Electric Company I did not have the time to goof around. My approach to tutoring is to try to be as hands-off as possible. By this I mean that I will not "fix" papers, nor will I write directly on a student's paper if it can be helped. I want to help the student in their problem areas by showing them examples of an area (thesis statement, grammar, citations)that needs improvement and then working with them so that they will know how to address the problem in the future.
