A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of Chowan University with a BA in Mathematics. While at Chowan I was one of the lead math tutors where I tutored college students in college algebra, intro to college algebra, applied calculus, and a few local high school students in geometry. Most of the time I worked with single students but I am also able to manage 2 or 3 at a time and/or groups of 2 or 3.

I use several teaching styles. Whatever works for that particular student. Some students are visual. They need to see what you are talking about. Others are good listeners; they can listen and learn. Some students need to do. All students need practice and I try to provide them with plenty of practice to ensure that they have mastered the topic.
I started teaching in 1989. Not only I have tutored students on different grade levels, but also worked as a classroom teacher in grades Pre-k through High School. I have taught integrated math and algebra I & II. All of my students gave me a positive feedback. They understood the topic well and was able to pass assigned tests. A Little Bit About Me...

It has been proven that students have different styles of learning. Thus, I understand that my tutoring approach will not be the same for each client. I usually start off with a detailed explanation of the problem that includes diagrams and models. If that is not enough, then I usually try a more spatial approach to the problem by demonstrating science and math in everyday life. I have informally tutored people of various age ranges in the subjects, physics and math , for a period that ranges over about three years . I have taught younger relatives as well as helped people informally on online tutoring message boards with math and physics problems. I have also been paid to assist students in how to operate the basic commands of computational mathematical software for three years as well.
I would be glad to work with students of all ages, but I prefer to work with a student individually rather than work with students in a group. From both my experience of being an informal tutor and being tutored, I find that students general prefer this style of tutoring because the tutor can both focus and better access their student's strengths and weaknesses in the particular academic subject they are having difficulty with.
