A Little Bit About Me...

I began my teaching career as a piano teacher in 1994, taught a pre-piano bells class & obtained licensure in Kindermusik in 1996. I obtained a BM in Piano Pedagogy in 1997. I then went out east to nanny for identical twins with Down Syndrome for a year which gave me experience with children not only academically but on a day to day basis as well as rooted me well in understanding children with special needs. I then completed a BS degree in Elementary Education & was a substitute for the school district for over 7 years. I have also been teaching piano lessons privately for 7 years now. I am currently teaching preschool as well. I enjoy all grade levels & intellects as I strive to be the best teacher I can in a variety of ways.

I enjoy teaching mathematics and biology. If the student is willing to learn in some fashion I can help him or her. I tend to teach by examples for mathematics and for biology I teach in a lecture style, answering questions in-depth when necessary. In both fields I can give in-depth explanations for concepts. Specifically in mathematics, deriving proofs is especially easy for me and could be useful for those students that wish to see the "why" of certain equations.
As an aerospace engineering student at Embry-Riddle, mathematics comes quite easily to me. I enjoy solving and creating mathematical problems. I enjoy a variety of teaching settings. Whether it's a large lecture hall or one-on-one tutoring, I find the challenge of finding the best, most effective instructional methods to be very rewarding. In general, I believe that promoting critical and creative thinking through hands on, problem-based learning is a strategy that leads to student success.
As a graduate student in Evolutionary Biology at Texas A&M University, I worked as a teaching assistant in undergraduate ecology and zoology labs. I found this experience to be very rewarding and went on to pursue a MA in Instruction. Since completing both graduate degrees in 2008, I have been teaching undergraduate biology at Winona State University.
