My comments on tutoring Elementary : I'm an Elementary Education major, getting ready to finish my last semester of classes at Western Governors University. I also substitute teach for Lewis County Schools, and I volunteer in the library by assisting students with their reading. I've passed all my Praxis exams required for being a teacher in the state of Kentucky, and I LOVE KIDS. I also spent almost 9 years teaching English as a Foreign Language in China, 1 year in Beijing, 7 years in Tianjin, and 1 year in Taiwan. I've taught students from 3 years old all the way up to around 65 years old, which included pre-school, up through all of the grades of grade school, and even into college and university-level courses.

I've got around 8 years of college and university work under my belt, and I am getting ready to finish a BA in Elementary Education from Western Governors University. I love teaching. I got the teaching bug while teaching English as a Foreign Language in China. I taught there for almost 9 years altogether, 1 year in Beijing, 7 years in Tianjin, and 1 year in Taiwan. I now work as a substitute teacher for Lewis County Schools and I also volunteer in the school library where I help struggling students with reading.
I am very active in the classroom and I believe in making learning fun and enjoyable. There are so many ways to help children learn, yet many of them are not used for one reason or another. If information must be memorized, I like to put it to song or a rap. Other methods of learning that are very useful are concept maps, discussions, and performing. Another very s ... read more

Patience and listening are the two most valuable parts of my teaching style. No one learns well in a hostile or rushed environment. I believe that the potential is there for all to learn even the most difficult subject matter and it is truly a joy to see the light of understanding shine through a student's eyes. I believe that my education and experience in the disciplines I hope to tutor are just the keys needed to unlock a student's true potential so that they may truly become whatever they want to become in life.

A Little Bit About Me...

The extent of my teaching experience was in rural Kentucky where I functioned as a substitute teacher for Beaver Dam, Kentucky schools, both for the elementary and high schools. I have a great desire to work one on one with children again in order to help them with their learning skills, social skills and self-esteem building, all of which are related to being on equal ground with their peers in school. Life has only now allowed me the opportunity to seek such avenues. I would be very interested in continuing my own education to better my qualifications, and am very open to counsel.
I am a firm believer that everyone learns in a different way, given different brain functioning, personality etc. Each child has different levels of attention, and differing strengths and weaknesses, which need to be pinpointed. My approach is very loving and casual, and I always can find a wa ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style focuses on collaboration with the student, ensuring that knowledge is recieved organically, and not forcibly. Having been a student myself, I understand the importance of appealing to a child's sensibilities and multiple intelligences; not every child learns in the same way. As such, I am committed to incorporating a variety of methods (such as visual, auditory and written) to reinforce the concepts as simply as possible. I subscribe to the idea that, in order for children to reach their potential, they must be challenged to strive.
I am a graduate of Walnut Hills High School, finishing in the top 3 percent in my class, and was a recipient of the Yale University Award for Outstanding Intellect and Character. As a student in a four year college, I have applied myself to every singe subject that there was to conquer. In some areas I shined, but it some areas I had difficulties. But at the end of the day I was learning from the best and took in all that I could, in order to continue my education, pass on the knowledge to my future children, and finally use education as a source to progress in our civilization. During my college years I was able to participate in study groups and help out fellow students in some subjects, (if they had difficulties understanding). College courses such as Writing, Reading, Art, Music, Business, Science, and Math gave me a well rounded educational experience and development as a student.
I am firm believer in dynamic education, where each student is considered individually from every single point of stand. Each child/student is unique, and because of that h ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently teaching first-year composition as a graduate student at the University of Cincinnati. I have been teaching at UC for two academic years and will graduate with my MA degree in June 2010. I teach and design freshman and sophomore level writing courses independently as a graduate teacher. I have taken the Praxxis English exam and can provide test scores upon request. As an undergraduate, I completed two years of elementary education coursework, including educational psychology and educational technology. During my undergraduate degree, I worked in the college writing center as well as volunteered as a teachers’ aid at local elementary schools.
My approach to composition is simple; think, write, repeat. This means that I use a process-oriented method as students draft and re-draft based upon the new ideas and insights which are gained through the practice of writi ... read more

I have always loved teaching because I feel that I can make a positive impact on my student's lives. I enjoy teaching because it fulfills me and gives me the opportunity to continue learning along with my students. I teach to the many different learning styles of my students. I am a strong believer in educational psychology and differentiating instruction based on the unique needs of each student. I also believe that assessment drives instruction. It is first important to determine the needs of the child through either informal or formal assessment techniques and by getting to know the student as well. As a teacher, I try to enter each educational environment with an open mind and an open heart. I know we each come in with our own perspectives, but my ultimate goal is to help my students learn, in whatever way is best for them.
I come from a family of teachers and now I to ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Being raised in a home with educators greatly influenced who I am, and how I view the building of knowledge. While I earned my B.S in psychology and minored in business, I participated in after school tutoring programs for a local public school. My studies of child development and the neuropsychology involved in learning helped immensely as I pursued my graduate degree in the college of education. During this time I served as a graduate teaching assistant for psychology courses, and substitute taught in the local public schools. In my classes I learned about pedagogy and I practiced concepts when I tutored students outside of class. Appreciating different learning spaces as we build knowledge has led to my career today in the virtual world.
I’m a strong believer in the learner centered knowledge building. Not all learners are the same, and that means not all facilitation s ... read more

In order to address the full spectrum of learning styles, I incorporate a variety of teaching methods, and I am confident that I will meet your child’s individual needs. While I make my students think hard, and present them with challenging scenarios, I am also very patient and sympathetic. I always reveal the tools needed for success, but only after the student has made an independent effort. While it goes without question that I want your child to master the targeted course material, it also my goal that he or she obtain a desire for additional learning both in future classes and outside of the classroom.
