A Little Bit About Me...

While at Nichols College, I took a part time job at the local Boys & Girls club in Dudley Massachusetts. Here, I worked with children from a variety of backgrounds on their homework and various other projects especially mathematics in which I specialize in. Many of these children were living in more challenging home environments, sometimes lacking a father and or living in a troubled neighborhood. My textbook strengths would anything math, finance, accounting, and business related. More importantly, my best asset regarding tutoring would be my ability to adapt my teaching to the child's needs and learning style. I first began tutoring under the direction of Nancy Donohue-Berthiaume at Quinsigamond College. I turored in Introductory Accounting, basic and college level mathematics. In my Sophmore symester, I was presented with a challenge. A young man who was both Dislexic, and Mathlexic was failing basic mathematics. In less then 1/2 hour, I was able to help him go from failing grades to straight A's. Later, I tutored fellow students in Pre-Calculus while taking the course myself. I ended up with a 4.0 GPA in that class. Later, I was provisionally certified to teach in 7th & 8th grade english and mathematics and in recent years I have felt more and more, because of my desire to help other's I would like to persue tutoring if possible.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with younger children teaching simple arithmetic and with college students/recent grads teaching them auditing and accounting concepts. With younger children, I have used games, flash cards, and blocks to have them practice their math problems. I find this keeps a child energetic and enthusiastic. I am also very familiar with the "touch-point" system, an effective strategy in learning how to add numbers. Being young myself, I find that younger students can identify with me more and therefore get the most out of their extra tutoring time.
