A Little Bit About Me...

When working with children, I try my best to be engaging, interactive, and fun. If necessary, I'll use props (e.g. building blocks) to help illustrate concepts, and I always try to ask many questions along the way to make sure my explanations are clear. With older students I will use a slightly more textbook approach, but keeping lessons interactive still remains essential, and props may still be useful in some circumstances. In both situations, I try to find which learning styles work best for the student and present lessons based on those. Each person has a unique way of learning, and if a teacher takes the time to understand it, then the student's true potential can be reached.

I believe that every person has a specific set of gifts, talents and abilities that is unique to each of us. Education, through its varied forms, is vital in the process of equipping children with the ability to grow and walk in their fullness so that they are confident in contributing their part to the world. With this belief, teaching must start with the person and then move to the content. I very much enjoy the process of teaching and learning with others. I have always been passionate about receiving and giving the best education. As a graduate of a top-level liberal arts college I was able to hone my skills in English writing and composition. I received a certificate in Elementary Education both in New York and California, and have taught in elementary schools for three years in grades 3, and a 1st/2nd grade combo class, respectively. I also have 2 years of experience substituting in elementary and middle schools, and 1 year of experience tutoring in English, as well as math. In addition to writing countless essays during my time as an English literature student, I worked as a residence hall tutor for my last two years of university, helping other students revise and edit their academic papers for grammar, structure, flow and ideas. Since university I've received a certificate in teaching English as a Foreign Language through Cambridge's CELTA program.
