I received a bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State University in Elementary Education. I graduated in May of 2006. That August I began a leave in fourth grade at Douglas Elementary School. I taught first grade last school season at Grassy Elementary school. The two years prior to teaching at Grassy I taught at Sloman Primary School, also in first Grade. While in the classroom I taught: Voyager Reading Program, small group and whole group instruction, incorporated new text into standard curriculum, taught ASTI Math and Science Lessons, assessed student performance throughout the term, Saxon Math Program, and conducted individual student conferences. Many children struggle with classroom learning because they require a different learning method than the one being offered or more direct attention than a teacher of 20+ students can offer. As a dyslexia therapist I was instructed in a number of different approaches to teaching and how to match each one to an individual student's needs. As a tutor I make it my priority to learn not only which subjects a student needs help with but also why they are struggling at all which allows me to adapt the lesson plan in a way that is easy for them to understand and retain.
