A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching for 13 years. I began teaching Social Studies classes at the high school level and taught every variety of student for 6 years. I then received my Masters in Special Education and began working with special needs students in the high school setting. While teaching Special Education students,I received my Specialists Degree in Special Education. I currently teach Social Studies to learning disabled, emotional behavior students, and Mildly Intellectually disabled students. I am also in charge of the tutoring program for the whole school in Social Studies. I have a lot of patience and am willing to try anything. I also teach 2 resource classes to the LD and EBD students where we work on their individual problems. Every student is different so I have to be a jack of all trades to work with them.

My comments on tutoring Literature : Have a good knowledge of American & World Literature as well as. I have completed 7 courses in this subject matter

I believe that a student should have the time to figure things out on their own, but with guidance from their tutor or teacher. I think I should provide a student with all the tools they need, and then through example I will teach a student to figure things out for themselves. There is no other way that I know of to quickly build the confidence of a student and the belief in one's self, than to teach a student how to figure out problems on their own. It is a very uplifting and life changing experience for a student to finally have confidence in self. My role is to encourage, guide, and correct when they may be going in the wrong direction while learning.

I graduated from a private college in Jackson, Ms.where I majored in English . I have four children of my own. For the last 10 years, I worked as a Subsitute Teacher and as a Reading Tutor while my children were in school.I taught low income poverty first grade students with reading disabilities for one year. I also minored in German and has taught beginning German to students as well as my own children.

I graduated with a Bachelor's in English from Troy University Dothan in December 2009. Since I opted for a Bachelor's in English rather than a Bachelor's in Secondary English Education, I took more writing and literature classes.
