Algebra II is one of my top subjects!

To be honest I do not really have any experience of being a tutor. I am a senior at Reagan High school and for the most part I tutor other classmates and family members. Mostly recently I broaden my range to elementary to high school. I do very well in mathematics except for geometry, Pre-cal, abd calculus because i am not registered for those classes. I'm also good in science.
My teaching style varies from student to student. I like to get to know the student in order to maximize their understanding of the subject. Everybody does learn differently, so I am open to change for that said student.

Learning Math can be FUN!

With over 35 years experience teaching math, I have successfully taught students from third grade through college calculus. I enjoy math, and my students are able to understand it in a one-to-one teaching environment. During this time of closed schools, it is difficult for students to understand and adapt to this new way of learning. Many teachers are overwhelmed as they had to change their teaching methods with just a couple of months remaining in the school year. I have been teaching online classes at Forsyth Tech. for some time. Transfering this experience to one-on-one tutoring gives me the opportunity to help students that want to end the school year successfully. Let me help you improve your understanding with one-on-one tutoring.
I try to explain concepts by explaining the methods behind them. Once a student understands the concepts, it is easier for them to apply them t ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I just got back from Texas, after spending a semester in engineering school at the University of Texas at Arlington. Although my work experience is in retail, I feel that my knowledge can be used in tutoring. I enjoy helping people, even if it's just fixing a computer or caring for a friend's animals.

Algebra II is one of my top subjects! Algebra, at this point, is an absolute breeze for me. I have never received less than an A in every Algebra class I have taken, and I am quite capable of breaking down equations, theorems, and problems to their most basic form (I'll be able to show you how to decide what to manipulate in each problem, how to manipulate it, and the follow through) (more simply I'll be able to illustrate all the "how's," the "why's," and the "where's").

I graduated from Ronald Reagan High School with a 4.6 GPA in the second graduating class ('08), then went on the NC State University to study Engineering, where I jumped in between various Engineering programs for three years before simply deciding to take a break and truly figure out what I want to study. While this may deter several people from choosing me, I know that if you met me and/or any of my teachers from any grade level, they/I could certainly set the record straight, as I am quite a smart person, I have simply struggled with getting my life into an appropriate schedule. This is because between high school, my extra curriculars (captain of the drumline for three years and a captain of the lacrosse team for three years), and my parents, my life was completely structured for me, so what little free time I had was easy to budget, this is not the case in high school. A Little Bit About Me...

I consider myself a facilitator of information more than a teacher. Students must be accountable for their own learning. In math and science, it is important that students know how to apply knowledge rather than merely memorize information. In that regard, it is my job to make sure that students understand the core concepts of the material and then reinforce and encourage them to develop problem solving skills that will help them succeed.
As a graduate with an engineering related BS degree from North Carolina State University, my background intense in the maths and sciences. After entering the workforce for a few years, I took a few classes in education to acquire my teaching license in comprehensive science at the secondary level. I have taught primarily chemistry and physical science for 3.5 years, but have also taught biology and earth science. With chemistry being so math ... read more

I am a disciplinarian. I have an excellent ability to gain a students attention, keep it and the results of my students have been well above average. I have a knack to bring into the classroom, outside events (latest ball games, Olympics, etc.) to establish a 'bond' between myself and the student. This allows me to gain their confidence as well as not create a bored atmosphere. I find this very important, especially with the more difficult students.
As seen from above, I have valid tutoring experience in both middle grades and HS. I was in the student teaching program at Wake Forest and upon graduation, I was a substitute teacher in the Winston-Salem, Forsyth County School system. I also participated in the Junior Achievement program in the Piedmont NC region for over 5 years. I am currently a tutor with the "No Child Left Behind Program."

I have had several different interactions with children of all ages, spanning from elementary to college students, and have enjoyed every experience. I am excited about becoming a teacher to influence a number of kid's lives, but also love the impact that one-on-one tutoring can have. I have had the pleasant experience of learning how to teach/tutor at Salem College where the constructivist approach to learning is taught thoroughly.
I received my undergraduate Bachelor's degree from Wake Forest in 2006 in Religion and Political Science. I worked at Sloan Academics for one year in Winston-Salem as a academic tutor for a 6th-grade girl in all subjects. In January of 2009 I started the Master's Education program at Salem College to gain both a license as well as a Master's to teach secondary Mathematics. I have taken several Math classes at Salem to be able to teach (Calculus I, II, a ... read more

I began tutoring during my sophomore year of college in the fall of 2006 when I was informed of a wonderful community service opportunity at a local church. The program was geared toward helping elementary, middle, and high school students test at or above grade level proficiency in mathematics and computer literacy. I was very eager to become involved with this opportunity because I knew that I could use my knowledge, skills, and training to assist students in achieving their goals. After being involved with this program for the past several years, I realized that I have a special talent for working with children and seeing them succeed.
Teaching and helping students is my true passion in life. It is what drives to me wake up each morning. The differences among students are what I value the most. Every student does not have the same learning style and that is what makes teac ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that are students are learners. I believe that a tutor must figure out what student have trouble understanding in any subject. I first start by showing all the students all the step involve in solving any math or science problem. After learning where the student is having trouble, I instruct them on methods for studying the materials. I allows eneanged the student in guided practice when solving a problem. Then i have the student work the problem from start to finish. I check to make sure they solved the equation correctly. I point their mistake as well informed them of what they got right. I am currently working on a Master of Arts in Teching where I learned the importance of the constructivist approach to learning.

I have served moderate and low income students through AmeriCorps. My duties included running the after-school program in addition to helping student with their homework. I have also managed a multi-state campaign, and served as Vice President of an organization representing nearly 10,000 graduate/professional students.
I am hands-on and usually try to relate the material to the students in fun/meaning ways. I feel that education is key to a successful working career. If students need help with a subject, then I am more than willing to help - either through students seeking me out or analyzing their work for areas that need additional attention.

I graduated high school in 2003 as the valedictorian of my class. I maintained my high level of academics in college but didn't know what I wanted to do for a career. I graduated in 2007 with my business degree and moved to NC. I worked for a mental health agency helping children in broken homes with school work and being a positive male role model as well as taking pre reqs to return to school for my masters degree in physical therapy. I am currently in my 2nd year of PT school and have always helped others learn throughout my life.
I love working with children and had around 9 different children for a two year period while working at the mental health agency. They ranged from 3 years old to 16 years old.
