A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that teaching should be a collaborative process. The first step is to listen to the child and try to gain a sense of their own learning process. If you understand how the child learns, you will be better able to help him or her understand new concepts. I believe tutoring is invaluable in this regard, since it provides individual attention. Most classrooms are large, and ill-equipped to focus on each child's individual needs.
My tutoring began in high school, when I tutored younger students in any subject, from Math to English. I learned to love tutoring. I enjoy helping people to realize their full potential. The most rewarding part of tutoring, in my opinion, is the look on the child's face when something finally makes sense. I have obtained a BBA from the University of Toledo. While in college, I spent a year as a tutor and mentor to younger students, and to help teach ... read more

Having taught, elementary, middle, high school, and adults; I have discovered that learning can and will take place. The type of learning that needs to take place depends on the type of teaching that is facilitated. Without teaching; guided, organized, purposeful matriculation in an environment–laden with material and visual information intended to enhance and frame an individual’s knowledge and skill set; the type of learning we desire, will not occur. What and how we determine to be the most effective methods in addressing the academic, social and emotional needs of our students, will be reflected in our teaching.
For the last 23 years, I have educated elementary, middle, high school and adult students in all subject areas. I also served as a Language Arts Tracher/Trainer in the U.S. Peace Corps. As a special educator, I taught students with behavior problems and learning disabi ... read more
