In order to reach all students, a teacher must use a variety of teaching techniques to meet the various learning styles of the students and must therefore be both flexible and approachable. Teachers should work more as an aid or guide that facilitate the learning process, rather than as omnipotent instructors who attempt to force knowledge into the minds of their students. Information should not just be passed down as if it is the last and all-knowing word. Instead, the classroom must be student-centered with a high degree of interaction between the students and between the teacher and student.
My experience in tutoring, substitute teaching, and being an elementary classroom teacher for over one year, my teaching experiences have helped me to instruct students in their learning endeavors. Also, through my love for writing and working on a book along with having an appetite for read ... read more

Hands on, Practice based, through step by step instruction. Visual learning whenever applicable. Geometry, algebra, physics, and some calculus are in my range of teaching. I am very patient as long as the student is trying to learn and cares about the work. Mental support of students is half the battle.
I am comfortable tutoring lower level math classes, mechanical design, or other engineering classes. Writing classes such as English, literature, or fine arts are fine as well. I have a BS in Mechanical and Aerospace engineering from MIZZOU. I am very proficient in technical editing, critiquing papers and writing technical papers.

I love working with children. I believe that children tend to learn best through repetition and making the experience fun. I like to work with flashcards and other such methods. If you take the time with a child they will eventually pick up on what you are trying to teach them. However, there are methods such as acronyms that can be used as well.

As a law school graduate, I am well trained in writing and communication skills. While in law school I was awarded a position on the legal journal of Health Matrix: Journal of Law-Medicine. My duties as a member of the executive board were to manage the staff and tutor the other editors in writing skills as they developed articles worthy of publication in the journal. In addition to my experience in law school, I am currently clerking for a federal judge in downtown Pittsburgh where I write legal opinions and edit the work of other law clerks and interns. I believe that my experience in editing the work of others at a high level will prove to be a valuable asset in the tutoring of children in writing and reading skills.
In addition to my desire to practice law, I have a passion for the education of children. I believe children learn in many different ways and I am not committ ... read more

I have noticed a couple things in my years tutoring people in math. I have noticed that many people have trouble with the fundamental concepts of fractions, decimals, order of operations, and adding/subtracting positive and negative numbers. If a student does not have these concepts together much of the 'higher level' mathematics can seem a blur and highly confusing. I have also noticed that students like real world or relevant examples when learning a new math concept. I like to find out what my student is into and tailor problems to things that affect their every day life. Practical real world examples can significantly increase a students retainment of concepts. I also make it a point to keep the learning environment positive and upbeat.

I graduated with an AB in Chemistry, from a top college in the country, which has helped me gain a better understanding of mathematics and the physical sciences. I have learned from writing countless lab reports and term papers, in many different areas of study, the importance of grammar and research before one begins a project. I have mentored children throughout community organizations, helping them with everything from homework to life’s problems.
My teaching style would focus on making sure that all children understand the basics of what they are doing before they can proceed to a more difficult level of study. A strong foundation is the best way to achieve excellence whether studying basic Algebra or Advanced Inorganic Chemistry. A Little Bit About Me...

After completing a year as a teacher I realized that what I liked about teaching is the actual teaching part. Unfortunately for me, most of what was involved with being a teacher for me included tasks other than teaching, which was not what I had expected. I do very well with 1-on-1 tutoring and small group tutoring. The 11-15 age group is what I am especially interested in, but I have had experience with all ages from 4-25 years old. I have a lot of patience with students and passion for my subject (language), and what really makes me love teaching is being able to relate the subject to each individual in a personal way. By having students produce language and create written and spoken assessments about themselves, they are more likely to put information in their long-term memory. It is my goal to make students enjoy the learning process.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a young college graduate, my own school days are not far behind me, and I remember academic pressure and strain. Education is part of the foundation of each person, and a thorough education is vital for success in this fast-paced world. I believe in utilizing teaching methods catered to each student's strength: some learn by doing, some learn by hearing, others learn by seeing. A student's learning struggles indicate that the proper path to understanding a concept has not been found, and as a creative thinker, I will continue experimenting with different methods until the student achieves academic success. And learning should be fun! My goal is to create an enjoyable and sometimes entertaining experience for the student while broadening their horizons.

I graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor's degree in English and I recently earned a Master's degree in Creative Writing from Chatham University in Pittsburgh. In these magazines I offered feedback and responses to authors seeking publication.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very versatile. I think the best way to teach is to first assess the areas that need the most work, and then devise a simple, logical approach to help the student understand the material. Some students learn visually, others learn by repetition. It takes a lot of adaptation to make sure the student really grasps the ideas.
I was the salutatorian of my high school class. I excelled in every subject, and was a member of the tutoring club. I also tutored my cousin, who has Down Syndrome, helping him with his summer school work, including literature, handwriting, math, and Spanish. I majored in Art at the Pennsylvania State University. I also took many different courses in Art and Art History, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and photography.
