After graduation from college in Texas I taught high school math in Brownsville, Texas for 4 years. I moved to Dallas and taught math in Richardson for 8 more years before we moved to California. I chose to home school my own children in all subjects for grades 1-12. They are now both honor students at there respective universities. While my youngest was finishing high school, I got California certified and taught in an alternative school for 5 more years. I taught an independent study program and also taught Algebra classes. My teaching style is very simple and effective. I start with Technique. I believe that it is the best interest of a student’s success to learn about the instrument before learning how to play it. Then, I incorporate Basic Theory. It is also important for a student to understand why they are playing and how music flows together. My students then begin to learn the major fundamentals of the Bass; Groove, Feel, and how to be a leader. They will also learn how to write their own music, and if they desire how to read and notate. Music Theory is a big part of my curriculum. I feel it is the most important skill to understand what you are playing and why. I encourage the students at any time can bring in their own material to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I strive to include various learning styles when working with children. Some students learn best by listening or writing, while others need movement or tactile experiences to help in comprehension. I believe in keeping students engaged at all times, to minimize wasted time. Every child has potential. A teacher just has to know how to reach each child, and that happens when the students builds trust with the teacher.
I have taught music in public education for the last 15 years. I have been involved in church music ministry for over 25 years, and currently am the church pianist in Stockton, Ca. I love working with children of all ages. Math is my second love and I almost majored in math instead of music. Math was always easy for me in school. Although I don't enjoy writing, I am very strong in written English and enjoy proofreading papers.
