I have two years of experience as a GED tutor, and have graduated 12 students in that time. I have been a computer programmer for 40 years, including 18 years as a freelance programmer. I have dabbled in writing over the years, writing poems, short stores and vignettes. In the past three years I have begun focusing more on writing, and am 2/3 through a novel. I have studied communication, language and writing extensively on my own, and have written a grammar textbook, which I have used successfully with my GED students. Al though I have never technically tutored or taught a child writing, I am interested in helping aid a child's learning experience. I am extremely personable and social, and would get along great with any child. I am patient, understanding and eager to provide my extensive knowledge of writing to those that need help. As a current student at Central Michigan, I continue to strive for the best education I can possibly achieve. I have clepped out or aced all english classes at the college level and have found a great interest in writing and reading papers and essays. I am extremely familiar with both APA and MLA writing styles and have had numerous hours and years of practice writing papers and essays for my college level courses. While an undergraduate at Michigan Technological University, I often helped fellow students with their physics or math homework. I also tutored a high school student in geometry for one semester while working for Study Point in Boston. I have extensive education and experience in Science, Engineering and Business. My goal is to improve their understanding of the subject matter through examples and working through problems.

My teaching experience began with my work with troubled youth in Michigan. I worked with the Fine Arts Team using the arts to teach visually. I also used positive Peer Culture for helping students to deal with their problems. I slso taught history at the school. I have 8 years experience; I worked for WSI teacher staffing for 3 yrs. and 5 yrs. for the Battle Creek School System in grades K-12 in most subjects I create a positive atmosphere and help students to be responsible first to themselves and then to their community. I also try to make my students aware of their potiential and guide them in processing information by first understanding the context in which it is used. Then I like to use visuals in my teaching style. I prefer to start with testing of some kind to assess the developmental level of the student.

I recently have spent the last six months in the Head Start Program as a center teacher. We prepare them for kindergarten. I have taught all grade levels. I currently have a BA with a concentration in K-8 education. Due to online classes, I have written hundreds of research and essay papers using APA style although I have helped my son use MLA which I can write in effectively. Teaching mainly K-8 on a consistent schedule, I have learned that some students need one-on-one teaching. Being the third teacher in Head Start, I had time to work with individual students.
