A Little Bit About Me...

I beleive that all students have a unique learning style, and that a good teacher can figure out how to reach a student. If a student does not understand a subject or concept, I employ different methods (visual, hands-on, abstract, manipulatives) etc. I am extremly patient, and don't believe that students are smart or dumb, I believe all students can learn equally well,if their strengths are tapped.
I have homeschooled my son, who has ADHD and doesn't take medication, from Kindergarted to 6th grade. He is now in school and is a virtually an A student. I can teach just about any subject, even subjects I do not have an education in, for example, the last two years, my son had a desire to learn Latin, so I taught him Latin as I learned it myself. I really enjoy awakening a child's passion for reading and writing. I enjoy teaching kids who are have different learning styles.

I see my job as that of facilitator: the student is there, the information is there, and the student is the learner. I believe in vitamin D! You may ask what this has to do with it. Well, bear with me. I liken the curriculum to calcium and the presentation to vitamin D. Taking calcium supplements is a good idea, but it does us absolutely no good if our bodies don't absorb them. We need vitamin D in order to absorb calcium. Likewise, students need good presentation to absorb the material. This "vitamin D" involves explaining the material in terms the students can understand, getting to know them so you can meet them where they are at, and engaging them with your own excitement for the material.
