I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.
I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Math & Science. As a student I worked in the classroom for 3 semesters doing various jobs. I have tutored students in Math, Science, Language Arts and Social Studies. I have currently been working for Macon County Schools, substitute teaching and tutoring for the end of grade tests.

I am a very avid learner and have earned two degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: a BA in psychology and a JD. I taught science classes to children ages 4 - 12 during my law school career. I tutored elementary school students in basic math, grammar and science during my last two years of undergraduate work. In my experiences I have found that children learn in many different ways. Based on this I feel that individualized attention to each student makes them more successful in school, as well as, in many life experiences. Children learn by doing. With this in mind I find the best teaching style for each child. I enjoy using songs to enforce concepts in all subjects. I also enjoy having students discover and comprehend concepts on their own. I am far from a book and paper teacher, although, the concepts learned will relate to the material taught in class.
