My comments on tutoring Social Studies : I excelled in this subject, never earning below an "A" average.

I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.
I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.

As a high school junior, I was selected to attend the prestigious NC School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM). Afterward, I graduated early from UNC-Chapel Hill, receiving a BA in English with a minor concentration in mathematics. I pursued a career in information technology, most recently running Gap Inc.'s European operations. Last year, I left the corporate world to write a novel, which I completed in June 2005. A Little Bit About Me...

In my experiences I have found that children learn in many different ways. Based on this I feel that individualized attention to each student makes them more successful in school, as well as, in many life experiences. Children learn by doing. My teaching and tutoring experience began prior to completing the BA in Foreign Languages: I had been teaching and tutoring English and Latin to a few Italian students. After graduating and moving to the USA, I started tutoring Latin and Italian to American students. A Little Bit About Me...
